ATLANTA, GA NOVEMBER 2025– The Science of Beauty will host its second annual National STEM Day celebration, Rooted in STEM: The Power of Hair, Health, and Healing, on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Spelman College.

This half-day symposium brings together students, educators, innovators, and cultural leaders to explore the intersections of science, beauty, and wellness. Through panels, demonstrations, and keynote conversations, the event emphasizes how haircare, health, and healing connect to STEM pathways. Highlights include interactive discussions with leading scientists, healthcare professionals, and beauty innovators, alongside hands-on demonstrations that reveal the chemistry of beauty products, the science of hair, and innovations shaping the future of care.

“Rooted in STEM explores the power of hair, health, and healing, thereby showing students that scientific discovery can honor both culture and innovation,” said Dr. Letye Winfield, the Director of the Cosmetic Chemistry program at Spelman College.
Founded by visionary Sakeya Donaldson, The Science of Beauty inspires the next generation of leaders by reframing STEM as deeply connected to culture and daily life. This year’s event amplifies critical conversations around alopecia awareness, cultural hair practices, Black women in clinical trials, and wellness futures for women and girls—both as consumers and professionals.
“National STEM Day is more than a celebration—it’s an invitation,” said Donaldson. “We want young women to see themselves in STEM fields. Science can be a creative pathway that connects heritage to future careers, because it powers the beauty industry.”

“This year's National STEM Day program is a catalyst for creativity and innovation. At STEM Atlanta, we’re equipping the next generation to lead in the world’s most transformative fields – from artificial Intelligence, data science, and machine learning to quantum computing, cybersecurity, drone technology, and sustainable design,” said Dr. Maxine Cain, Founder & President of STEM Atlanta. “Through our Futurist 2030 Initiative, we’re not just preparing students for the future of work — we’re empowering them to create it. Together, we’re igniting every mind and transforming the future of STEM.”
Alongside our partners, we’re building a movement that celebrates science not only as a discipline, but as a form of self-discovery, empowerment, and a critical tool in preserving cultural legacy.
Tickets are $15 for students with ID and $30 for general admission. The event is presented in partnership with Spelman College Cosmetic Science Program, STEM Atlanta Women, Fly Girl Approved Hair Perfume, and Bask & Lather Co., alongside a coalition of educators, sponsors, and community organizations.
