TAMPA, FLORIDA -- On April 18, 2025, our founder --Sakeya Donaldson -- had the honor of participating in a powerful panel discussion at the Florida Aquarium as part of their Teen Achievers Aqua Experiences. This program was designed to expose youth to real-world STEM careers through community conversation. She was joined by a brilliant lineup of professionals -- electrical engineers, catering operations leaders, and educators who support teens in discovering career pathways. The panel was a unique opportunity to take a look at STEM and how it shows up in everyday careers and environments.

Representing The Science of Beauty, Sakeya shared the stage to speak about the often-overlooked science behind the beauty industry and the critical role of identity, creativity, and curiosity in STEM. "Our mission is to empower girls to see science not as something separate from who they are, but deeply connected to their everyday lives -- from the ingredients in their favorite products to how they express themselves in the world," says Sakeya. "The Science of Beauty isn't just about formulas -- it's about legacy, innovation, and reclaiming space in every industry that shapes culture."
During her time with the Teen Achievers, our founder unpacked the chemistry behind personal care, highlighted innovation in product development, and discussed the importance of representation in both the lab and leadership roles. But beyond that, she invited the teens to see themselves as part of a new generation of thinkers who will lead with boldness and purpose. Our mission at The Science of Beauty is to make sure young people—especially Black girls—see themselves as innovators in every room they walk into, from the lab to the boardroom. And this moment at the Florida Aquarium reaffirmed just how necessary and urgent that work remains.
To the teens who showed up, asked questions, and imagined a future bigger than what they’ve seen: you are already the change. Keep seeking. Keep questioning. Keep believing.
Thank you to the Florida Aquarium for inviting us, for creating spaces for these conversations to thrive, and for every speaker who helped spark a little more light in the minds of tomorrow’s leaders.
